Miss Liliya & Miss Alicia’s
Top 5 Tips to Improve Flexibility

  1. Commitment. Commitment is key to a dancers success. They must have the discipline to do the work to achieve their goals
  2. Know the difference between pain and discomfort. It is very important for a dancer to distinguish the difference between pain and discomfort. In most cases, dancers do not achieve maximum flexibility, simply because they cannot tell the difference between the two. When they feel a small amount of discomfort they pull back and do not complete the stretch. A dancer should never feel like a stretch is hurting. With a proper stretch there will be some discomfort. Over time, the muscles will become more flexible, helping the dancer reach his or her flexibility goals.
  3. Routine. Stretching at least 5 days a week. In order, to accomplish your flexibility goals you must make stretching part of your daily routine. You must create muscle memory.
  4. Time. Start by holding a stretch for approximately 3 mins, about the same time as a TV commercial. Increase the time as your flexibility increases - maybe try to make it through your favorite TV show. Holding your stretch for as long as possible will keep your goals on track!
  5. Don’t Give up! Even the most inflexible dancer can improve their stretch if you follow these 5 tips. Just believe!
